Congratulations Diana Valverde Mendez! Diana is interested in understanding the physical properties of the different components of the bacterial cell (cytoplasm, nucleoid, etc), and how these characteristics affect the internal mechanisms and processes of cells. To achieve this goal she images fluorescently labeled probes using a custom built biplane microscope. From these images she is able to extract 3D trajectories and uses these to study diffusion processes that provide information about the relevant physics in the cell.
